Psalm 42:5 (NIV)

5 Why, my soul, are you downcast?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.

TOXIC: ANYTHING containing poisonous material capable of causing SICKNESS or even DEATH.

3 ways how God can help us deal with Toxic Emotions

1. Turn to God FIRST.

Psalm 55:22 (TLB)

22 Give your burdens to the Lord. He will carry them. He will not permit the godly to slip or fall.

1 Corinthians 3:3 (TLB)

3 For you are still only baby Christians, controlled by your own desires, not God’s. When you are jealous of one another and divide up into quarreling groups, doesn’t that prove you are still babies, wanting your own way? In fact, you are acting like people who don’t belong to the Lord at all.

2. Allow OTHERS into the situation.

Proverbs 17:17 (ESV)

17 A friend loves at all times,
and a brother is born for adversity.

James 5:16-18 (MSG)

16-18 Make this your common practice: Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you can live together whole and healed. The prayer of a person living right with God is something powerful to be reckoned with. Elijah, for instance, human just like us, prayed hard that it wouldn’t rain, and it didn’t—not a drop for three and a half years. Then he prayed that it would rain, and it did. The showers came and everything started growing again.

3. Turn your PAIN into purpose.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NIV)

Praise to the God of All Comfort

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

Proverbs 4:23 (NIV)

23 Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it.
